Ethos Statement for Voices for Change Advocacy for Domestic Abuse

At Voices for Change, we believe survivors of domestic abuse deserve more than survival — they deserve the opportunity to heal, rebuild, and reclaim their lives with dignity.

We stand for holistic recovery that recognises the full impact of abuse on the mind, body, identity, relationships, wellbeing, and sense of self. We believe healing cannot come from silence, stigma, suppression, or reducing people to labels and diagnoses alone.

Our advocacy is rooted in compassion, trauma-informed practice, lived experience, autonomy, and human connection. We believe survivors should be heard, believed, empowered, and supported as whole individuals — not defined by what has happened to them.

We support informed choice in mental health care while challenging systems that over-medicalise trauma responses without addressing the deeper realities of abuse, safety, recovery, and long-term wellbeing.

We believe recovery should include:

  • Safety and stability

  • Emotional and psychological healing

  • Community and connection

  • Practical advocacy and empowerment

  • Restored confidence, identity, and voice

  • Awareness

  • Access to compassionate, person-centred support

We advocate for approaches that restore dignity rather than control, partnership rather than powerlessness, and healing rather than mere symptom management.

Our mission is to create spaces where survivors are not simply managed, but truly supported to recover, grow, and be heard.
